Karnataka CM’s friends-turned-foes in Congress to attend Rahul Gandhi show

The sugar bowl will go to polls on April 18 with campaign set to end on April 16.

Bengaluru: Former Congress legislators of Mandya district, who have ignored diktats from central leaders to campaign for Nikhil Kumaraswamy, are set to participate in party president Rahul Gandhi’s road show in K R Nagar Assembly constituency on Saturday, but are yet to make up their mind about backing Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s son. These friends-turned-foes of Mr Kumaraswamy maintained a stoic silence though CLP leader Mr Siddaramaiah has egged them on to sink their differences and work for the success of JD (SD) candidate. Though they would show up during Mr Gandhi’s visit to K R Nagar, part of Mandya constituency, they reiterate that they would take a call on supporting Nikhil Kumaraswamy after consulting their voters and workers.

One former Congress legislator told Deccan Chronicle: “We are still consulting our workers in this regard and we will go by what they say. For us, our workers are our bosses and we are with them. We have imposed gag orders on ourselves and will not talk about it. Our fight is only to protect the party’s support base in Mandya district and not against our leaders. We will explain everything to the media on April 19,” he added. The sugar bowl will go to polls on April 18 with campaign set to end on April 16.
