BJP: IUML flag confusing in rest of India

Syed Shahnawaz Hussain was speaking at Meet The Leader programme organised by Press Club in Malappuram.

Malappuram: The similarity between Indian Union Muslim League’s (IUML) flag with Pakistan’s flag is confusing people in other parts of country, BJP national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said here on Thursday.

He was speaking at Meet The Leader programme organised by Press Club in Malappuram.

“The Muslim League flag has created confusion in other parts. We agree the League is a party which respects the Constitution. At the same time there is no change in our stand that it is a communal party,” Mr Hussain said. He also said that BJP national president Amit Shah never equated Wayanad with Pakistan. Shah had recently equated Wayanad where Congress president Rahul Gandhi is contesting, by saying, “When a procession is taken out, you cannot make out whether it is India or a Pakistan procession.”

“There were campaigns during the last general election that Narendra Modi was a threat to minority communities, but we have witnessed Muslim countries such Saudi Arabia and UAE honouring Prime Minister Modi with highest accolades,” Mr Hussain said.

He also refuted Rahul Gandhi’s candidature in Wayanad. “Rahul’s contest in Wayanad is not because of his love for South India. He cannot fool the people of Kerala. Congress was neglecting Malappuram and Wayanad when they were in power. Their love is only for the election season,” he said.
