T Nagar residents lose hope, to vote for Nota
Chennai: After Alandur, it is the turn of T Nagar to reject political party nominees as locals here have initiated a remarkable campaign urging residents to only press the Nota button on the ballot machine come May 16.
Instrumental behind this move is the The T Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association, whose office-bearers have even started placing boards outside apartments and houses egging voters to press Nota.
“We are fed up with every political party. All of them are worse and if the party is worse, then the candidates will also be wrong,” said B. Kannan, association secretary.
“Though there is an alternative front, we still don't know what benefit will come of supporting them,” he added. Chief among the reasons for the outburst among locals is that little progress has been made regarding unauthorised buildings issue that plagues T Nagar.
“The CMDA has not acted on this issue at all. The roads are shrinking due to constant encroachment and the Chennai corporation keeps mum. I don't even want to talk about the traffic mess here,” Kannan said.
The association members added that they are looking to gather support from at least 12,000 voters to their cause. “We've suffered enough and reached a point of no return. But we are not abstaining from voting, we are registering our anger by choosing Nota,” said V.S. Jayaraman, association member.
