H Raja: DMK dry law for political mileage
Chennai: BJP national secretary H. Raja took pot shots at the DMK for announcing to enact a legislation to introduce total prohibition in the state and said it was the same party that had patronised prohibition.
“"It was the DMK that introduced liquor in Tamil Nadu and now the same party has promised to enact a legislation to introduce total prohibition in its election manifesto. This has been announced to gain political mileage,” he said.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday while campaigning in T. Nagar, Mr. Raja who is also the party’s candidate for T. Nagar constituency, said the ruling AIADMK’s assurance to introduce complete prohibition in a phased manner was been made with an eye on the election.
“Had the AIADMK government been serious it would have announced such a decision when the BJP and various political parties and various sections in the state demanded total prohibition. Also, the AIADMK manifesto did not spell out a strategy to tide over the loss of revenue following the closure of the Tasmac outlets,” he added.
On the claims of the PWA to be a strong winning combination, he said the people would be prove it otherwise in this May 16. Sheer number of constituents would not make that alliance strong.
In fact, none among the six parties in league has vote bank and they would hardly make any impact at the hustings, Mr Raja alleged.
