DMDK panel meets to finalise candidates list
Chennai: A day after DMDK chief Vijayakanth announced that his party would face the May 16 Assembly polls alone, a seven-member committee headed by his brother-in-law and youth wing secretary L.K. Suddhish to select candidates met at the party headquarters in Koyambedu on Friday.
According to the DMDK sources, members of the committee and three deputy secretaries attended the meeting to finalise candidates screened by party chief Vijayakanth. DMDK chief interviewed over 2,600 aspirants who sought party ticket for Assembly polls from February 22 to March 1.
“We are going to finalise candidates’ list and submit it to the party chief,” a senior DMDK leader said, adding that Captain would release the finalise list of candidates. Already, the rumours are doing rounds that Vijayakanth might contest from Thirukovilur Assembly seat in Villupuram district rather than from sitting Rishivindiyam seat.
It all begin with Vijayakanth choosing to inaugurate projects completed under constituency development fund from Thirukovilur. Party’s propaganda secretary V.C. Chandirakumar is expected to seek re-election from his Erode East seat itself while other sitting MLAs may also contest from their sitting seats itself.
