Bengaluru: Has the state government gifted state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa a handle, which he could deploy to his advantage in LS polls, by ordering a SIT probe into the audio tape episode?
At least two MLAs from north Karnataka region suspected that Mr Yeddyurappa could use the decision of the state government to announce a SIT probe to gain political advantage. In north Karnataka, this could again be played out as an instance of CM H.D. Kumaraswamy’s vengeful act to end the political career of Mr Yeddyurappa. “It is too early to conclude, but if this issue is dragged for long, it might be used to reap political gains by Mr Yeddyurappa. He could accuse the family of Mr Deve Gowda of hatching a conspiracy to finish his political career,” said one of the MLAs. Many Lingayat pontiffs too expressed similar views. “It is not appropriate to favour any political party or leader.
But, I can say it is an attempt at character assassination of Lingayat leader and state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa. The government is trying to suppress the Opposition leader by hatching a conspiracy against him through the audio tape episode. People will take suitable decision against it during the coming LS polls . It is also not good for all parties to indulge in political slugfest instead of focusing on welfare of downtrodden and providing infrastructure,” said Rambhapuri seer Veerasomeshwara Shivacharya Swamiji.
Dr Siddarama Swamiji of Naganur Rudrakshi Matha said, “Lingayat leaders in politics had never indulged in attempt to topple the government by adopting such strategy. Such development will cause embarrassment to the BJP leaders at national level including PM Modi. We cannot accept state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa as Lingayat leader if he resorts to such attempt.”
Meanwhile, Umakanth Nigudagi, former president of Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, “Mr Yeddyurappa, who is a simple and straightforward leader, has been trapped by the Gowda family which is known for cunningness and also backstabbing, through this audio tape issue,”
