Gutta Sukhender Reddy to head Telengana farmers' council
Hyderabad: The state government is preparing to issue a few ordinances, including one regarding the constitution of a State-Level Farmers’ Council, a body to take care of all the needs of farmers in the state.
A new legislation to create a corporation is being worked out. The body will be headed by Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Nalgonda member of Lok Sabha.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao recently looked into whether the Office of Profit Rule did or did not permit the government to appoint a Member of Lok Sabha as the head of an institution.
According to sources, the Advocate-General, after looking into the merits of the issue, sent his opinion to the Chief Minister.
The Advocate-General said the appointment of an MP as the head of a corporation did not attract the provisions of the Office of Profit Rule, as long as it was mentioned in the legislation that the appointment didn’t grant him any monetary benefits apart from the salary and perks that he was already entitled to.
The Chief Minister has been particular abo-ut constituting Rythu Samanvaya Samitis (Farmers’ Coordination Committees) at the village, mandal, district and state levels, with an apex body to oversee all farmer-related issues.
The proposed distribution of Rs 4,000 per acre per crop to every eligible farmer in the state, which will be implemented from the upcoming Kharif season, will be monitored by this apex body.
Recently, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, on the Chief Minister’s recommendation, prorogued the legislative session so as to allow the government to issue ordinances in the interim period
