YSRC Rebel MP Seeks Court Protection Ahead of Sankranti Celebrations

Raghu Rama Krishna Raju fears false cases, requests fair treatment.

Vijayawada: YSRC rebel MP, Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, moved the high court with a plea for government protection to him as he would be visiting his home village to celebrate the Sankranti festival.

A single-judge bench headed by Justice B.S. Bhanumathi heard the petition here on Thursday. The petitioner stated that he would be visiting his home parliamentary segment Narsapuram to meet the people during the festival, but he might be implicated in false cases by the police, to arrest him. He pleaded for a court direction to the police to act only in a fair manner.

Petitioner’s counsels Y.V. Ravi Prasad and P.V.G. Umesh Chandra stated that their client had already been booked in 11 cases and was severely beaten up after his arrest in a case earlier.

Government pleader representing the home department, Maheswara Reddy, submitted that no case was booked against the petitioner and as such, it would be inappropriate to ask for serving a notice under section 41-A, and issue of a direction to the police to follow the norms. The petition was not maintainable, he argued.

The court adjourned the case for its next hearing to Friday.
