New Election Commission directions may delay results

It has also asked that a copy be handed over to the media and party agents.

Hyderabad: Following fresh orders from the Central Election Commission, the final results of the Assembly elections could get delayed on Tuesday.

The EC has ordered the Chief Electoral Officers of Telangana state, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Mizoram and Chhattisgarh to issue a certificate to candidates after every round of counting. It has also asked that a copy be handed over to the media and party agents.

The earlier practice was that the certificate would be given after the completion of counting of votes in all rounds and the winning candidates were declared.

As per the latest orders of the poll panel, after every round of counting, the counting will be observed and the certificate will be signed by the assigned returning officer before it is released. Along with it, the announced number will be displayed on the display boards placed at counting stations.

Every round of counting will therefore be announced through the public address system and the result sheet will also be given to the candidate and his/her party. A copy of it will also be handed over to the media. As and when a round is over, the counting sheet will also be uploaded on the counting software by the returning officer.
