Cops Arrest 12 in Ibrahimpatnam Clashes

HYDERABAD: The Rachakonda police investigating the clashes between the BRS and Congress cadres at Ibrahimpatnam on Thursday, have arrested 12 persons including members of both parties.

It was found that around 10,000 people had participated in the nomination rallies held by the BRS candidate Manchireddy Kishan Reddy and Congress contestant Malreddy candidate Malreddy.

Police are verifying video footage and gathering witness accounts and other clues to identify those involved in the clashes that left 14 people including a woman deputy commissioner of police and five constables injured.

Maheshwaram DCP Ch. Srinivas said that the cases were under investigation and that action would be initiated those who were identified.

Ibrahimpatnam police have registered five cases in connection with the clashes. One case each case of violating the model code of conduct was registered against each group, as also one each case against each group for rioting. Another case was registered for assaulting police personnel and obstructing them from performing their duties. All the injured cops have been discharged, police said.
