BRS spars with BJP on Diwali restrictions

Hyderabad: Diwali has become the latest battle ground with the BRS accusing the BJP of politicising the festival. The BRS was reacting to the BJP accusing the BRS government of “muzzling” Hindu festivals.

The BJP, was reacting to a direction from the Hyderabad city police restricting the bursting of firecrackers and setting off of fireworks in public places to between 8 pm and 10 pm These restrictions, the city police said, will be in force in Hyderabad and Secunderabad starting from 6 am on November 12 till 6 am on November 15.

The BJP’s response to the restrictions, posted on X (formerly Twitter), said: “This constant muzzling of Hindu festivals and celebrations is the reason to bring change in Telangana. Be it Congress or BRS they always concentrate on appeasement. It’s time for change, it’s time for BJP.”

The BRS hit back asking the BJP to stop “politicising everything for petty political gains.” It said the city police were complying with directions from the Supreme Court to all states restricting the use of firecrackers. It said a similar notification was issued in all states “including your BJP-ruled states. Failing to gain people's support, the Telangana BJP is resorting to cheap propaganda,” and that people are wise and will not fall for “BJP's hate politics.”
