Opposition keeps doors open for TRS defectors

None of the Opposition parties are in a hurry to declare their candidates as each is waiting for the developments in the TRS to play out.

Hyderabad: Opposition parties are trying to fish in troubled waters following a rift in the TRS over the allotment of tickets for Assembly seats. The Congress, TD, BJP and the Telangana Jana Samiti have kept their doors wide open to defectors and disappointed ticket aspirants from the TRS.

None of the Opposition parties are in a hurry to declare their candidates as each is waiting for the developments in the TRS to play out. Disgruntled TRS leaders are keeping in touch with all parties for tickets as an alternative option.

This trend is more in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medak districts, where several MLAs from the TD had defected to the TRS in the past four years. All these MLAs secured TRS tickets for the upcoming Assembly elections with the party high command deciding to give tickets to sitting MLAs.

TRS leaders in LB Nagar, Kukatpally, Jubilee Hills, Qutbullapur, Maheswaram, Serilingampally, Ibrahimpatnam etc have revolted against the party leadership and are threatening to move to other parties along with their followers, if tickets were denied to them.

This apart, the party has not declared tickets for sitting MLAs from Medchal, Malkajgiri, Vikarabad. In these seats, sitting MLAs are issuing ultimatums to the party leadership to give them tickets immediately, else they would be forced to look for other alternatives.

Seven TRS corporators have rebelled against Mr M. Rammohan Goud being named for the LB Nagar seat. Congress MLA Kale Yadaiah who defected to the TRS and secured a TRS ticket now is also facing the ire of local TRS leaders. Miryalguda Congress MLA Bhaskar Rao, who also shifted to the TRS later and secured the ticket is now facing severe dissidence from local TRS leaders. TRS leader Amarender Reddy has threatened to resign and contest from another party if Mr Bhaskar Rao is not replaced.

Even the legislators who won on TRS tickets in 2014 are facing rebels with three or four serious contenders from their own party for the seat. In the Tungathrthi seat, though the ticket was given to TRS MLA Gyadari Kishore, rebels are opposing this saying that he cannot win this seat as his performance was very poor and are seeking his replacement.

With this, the Opposition parties, especially the BJP and TJS, in which there are no strong contenders in several districts, are hoping for these disgruntled leaders to come in to their parties and contest elections.

The Congress and TD too are in huge demand from TRS rebels as they have pinned their hopes on a Congress-TD alliance that would make them winners in the polls.
