Women politicos told not to learn from YSR Congress leader Roja
KAKINADA: Endowments minister Pydikondala Manikyala Rao exhorted elected women corporators of Bharatiya Janata Party in Kakinada civic body polls to follow the example of former Union minister Daggubati Purandeswari, while giving public speeches. He also said that they should also learn from YSR Congress leader and Nagari MLA K. Roja how not to speak or conduct themselves in public.
Presiding over the party's felicitation function to three elected BJP Corporators on Sunday here, Mr Rao said, "In public life, one must speak carefully and responsibly for the betterment of society. Public is closely watching conduct and behaviour of elected representatives."
He said that corporators should make efforts to bring public issues to the notice of KMC council and sort them out. Pointing that there is one BJP corporator in Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation and Kakinada city has three corporators, the endowments minister said that the party could have won at least five seats in KMC election.
Mr Rao said that with this inspiration, the BJP should win 10 to 15 assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh in the coming elections, scheduled in 2019.
BJP MLC Somu Veerraju said that defeated candidates need not worry about the past and should engage themselves in constructive works for the benefit of the party and themselves. "We must accept the public mandates and we need to make efforts to maintain much more relations with the people," the MLC said.
District BJP president Y. Malakondiah found fault with 'groupism' in the party.
“It is not right to conduct meetings without notice and without taking consent from the district party,” he said.
Mr Malakondiah said that defeated candidates would be appointed as party in-charges in their respective divisions.
