Declined PM's post in 1990s on son's advise: Chandrababu Naidu
Hyderabad: In 1990s when the Union Front government wanted him to take over as Prime Minister, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu let go the opportunity on the advise of his son who told him that the PM's post was "temporary".
"My son (Lokesh, now Telugu Desam general secretary) told me the Prime Minister's post is temporary but the Chief Minister post is permanent. So, I did not accept the prime minister's post," the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister told reporters in an informal chat on the occasion of his 35th wedding anniversary on Saturday.
Naidu had served as the convener of United Front. It was in 1997 when the United Front government was in power at the Centre that Naidu was chosen by the United Front leaders to be the Prime Minister.
He was just two years old as Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh at that time but, given his party's numerical strength in the Lok Sabha, played a key role in bringing various parties together to forge the United Front.
