Ramesh Chennithala says CM has no control over police force

The Opposition leader also took a dig at CPM leader V.S. Achuthanandan who was recently given a Cabinet post as chairman of ARC.

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala alleged that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has lost control over the police force.

He said the situation has reached such a stage wherein Mr Pinarayi is forced to criticise the police. Mr Chennithala was speaking in front of the Secretariat after inaugurating a three-hour dharna of UDF MLAs against the anti-people policies of the LDF government including hike in prices of essential goods.

Mr Chennithala alleged that in the last two months, 58 murders had taken place in the state. He also claimed that the Left government has enforced harsh tax burden on the people.

“The previous UDF government never burdened people with tax reforms. Unfortunately, the people are having a harrowing time,” he said.

The Opposition leader also took a dig at CPM leader V.S. Achuthan-andan who was recently given a Cabinet post as chairman of administrative reforms commission.

“Achuthanandan’s mindset is that he is happy to get at least the ‘friend’ if he can’t get hold of ‘Indulekha’. By providing him with the new post, they have gagged the nonagenarian leader,” Mr Chennithala claimed. He also alleged that the state exchequer stands to lose a lot of money due to the new post for VS.

“Secretariat is witnessing fights. The topic of feud is parking of ministers’ cars. In order to amicably settle it, Chief Minister held a dinner meeting for his Cabinet ministers,” he added.

KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran alleged that the Left Government is going ahead with anti-people policies like increasing the tax on family partition deed. He warned that if the government does not revoke the inflated registration tax, the UDF will take up protests.

Former chief minister Oommen Chandy also criticised the wrong policies of the LDF.

Initially, the protest was scheduled for August 4, but postponed to Wedn-esday when KC(M) chairman K.M. Mani said it was inconvenient for him.
