Dissent: Coalition panel to meet on June 14

The CMP is a crucial document for any coalition government to function smoothly.

Bengaluru: After witnessing a series of outbursts by upset MLAs who were denied cabinet berths, leaders of the JD(S) and Congress have decided to convene a meeting of the co-ordination committee of the coalition headed by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, Siddaramaiah on June 14. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior party functionary said the parties have not yet finalised the agenda for the meeting but have broadly agreed to discuss and strategise on pivotal issues and also initiate a discussion on the common minimum programme (CMP).

"The CMP is a crucial document for any coalition government to function smoothly. The primary concern is that the Congress has given many welfare schemes named bhagyas. The Congress wants to protect these bhagyas while the JD(S) wants to launch its own welfare schemes. Therefore, we need to have a proper understanding before the government starts functioning," the source explained.

The source added that the JD(S) wants to waive off farm loans, which amounts to nearly Rs 53000 crore. "The parties need to work out modalities on this. Although Mr Kumaraswamy has announced a decision to waive off farm loans, the modalities are yet to be worked out. Hence, the parties need to work on this issue," the source added.
