Vaiko detention need to be enquired: Tamilisai Soundararajan

The MDMK general secretary was detained on the ground that he was “on the list of dangerous persons posing a threat to the country.â€

Chennai: The state unit of the BJP expressed disappointment over the manner in which MDMK chief Vaiko was treated and deported by the authorities in Malaysia on Friday, and asked why the leader was permitted to travel in the first place.

Reacting to Mr Vaiko's detention at the Kuala Lumpur airport by the Malaysian immigration officials, BJP president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said that the issue needed to be enquired thoroughly.

“He was permitted to travel and he has been given Visa after all. But why was he denied permission, we have no idea? It should be analysed and enquired and after that, whatever the problem is, it should be dealt with accordingly,” she
said.

The MDMK general secretary was detained on the ground that he was “on the list of dangerous persons posing a threat to the country.” He was later deported to India on Friday night along with his secretary Arunagiri. Mr Vaiko had been there to attend the marriage reception of the daughter of Deputy Chief Minister of Penang State P. Ramasamy. The Malaysian embassy had granted a visa last week.

Security stepped up at Kamalalayam: A multi-layered security is in place at Kamalalayam, the BJP state headquarters at T Nagar here, following a threat letter on Friday.

The security cover is likely to continue till the threat perception recedes and the sender (s) of the letter is identified and arrested, it was said.
