Rajini's river-linking views good, but he can't come to power: Sellur K Raju
Chennai: State cooperation minister Sellur K. Raju welcomed Tamil film superstar Rajinikanth’s dream of linking the south Indian rivers but sarcastically remarked that the actor can never ‘come to power’ in Tamil Nadu.
“Linking up all the rivers in south India is good. He (Rajini) has only put forth an excellent suggestion. He has announced to provide funds (for this project), so, let him give. We all wish for it. The entire people of Tamil Nadu want the south Indian rivers to be inter-linked,” Mr Sellur Raju said reacting to the superstar’s “ambition in life.”
While speaking at the Kaala audio launch at a packed YMCA here on Wednesday night, Rajinikanth had said, “my only dream has been to unite the south Indian rivers. I would die peacefully the moment this happens.”
When reporters in Madurai sought to know from the minister if the veteran actor could come to power in TN, Mr. Raju shot back saying Rajinikanth cannot come to power in Tamil Nadu.
“He can’t come to power in the state. It’s all in the people’s hands,” the minister added.
During Wednesday’s even Rajini had also said that “time will come” for him to launch the political party. “When it happens with god’s blessings and people’s support, a good time will arrive for Tamil Nadu and for TN people. Vaazhga Tamil makkal, Valarga Tamil Nadu. Jai Hind” he had said.
The actor had in December 2017 announced to float a political party in Tamil Nadu, but kept everyone guessing on the possible date.
