House panel in Munnar, report in three months

Ms Chowdhury said if there are more complaints they could send them in the next ten days.

Kottayam: The 21-member Parliamentary committee on the environment led by Renuka Chowdhury conducted a sitting in Munnar on Wednesday. The members held consultations with the representatives of at least 20 organisations and visited the Eravikulam National Park and received complaints from various groups, who said the encroachments and the illegal constructions are threatening Munnar's climate.

The panel will submit a report within three months. Ms Chowdhury said if there are more complaints they could send them in the next ten days.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the national park, she said since the decisions taken by the committee is of confidential nature, it could be revealed only in parliament.

The team comprised Ronald Zappa, Narendra Singh, Dr K Gopal, Sitaram Singh Yadav, CP Narayanan, Dadan Misra, Pankaj Chowdhury, Prabhu Bhai, N Vasava, Prasanna Acharya, Prabhath Singh P Chowhar, SR Balasubramaniyam, Nana Pattoly, Vikram Usenthy, M Vasanthy and CM Nagendramar Prathap.
