Advancing polls is in AIADMK's hands: BJP
Chennai: Facing the heat from Opposition parties responsible for the political crisis in the state, the BJP on Wednesday turned the tables saying the decision on thrusting elections upon the people “rested” entirely upon the ruling AIADMK.
“Those in power should decide whether the Assembly elections should take place in advance or only after the government completed its full term in office (till 2021),” BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said on Wednesday. Contending that her party had nothing to do with the developments within the AIADMK, she said the AIADMK should decide whether or not to advance the elections.
Lashing out at the state government on the law and order issue, she said referring to the murder of security guard at Kodanad estate of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, “Kodanadu has become kolai nadu (place of murders). It is disheartening that the state government has not taken any action despite the income tax (I-T) department furnishing to the state government, a list containing names of ministers and government officials, who have been beneficiaries of sand mining baron J. Sekhar Reddy.”
“People want corruption to be eliminated at all levels. It will not be enough if an official is removed. Real change will come if corruption is eliminated,” she said and urged CM Edappadi K. Palanisami to devote special attention in this regard.
Referring to DMK working president M. K. Stalin’s assertion that a non-corrupt party should come to power, Tamilisai said Stalin was attempting to create an illusion that his party was not at all corrupt. “The verdict on the 2G scam may come anytime and the DMK will be exposed,” she said.
Further, she demanded the govt resolve drinking water crisis and also take immediate steps to desilt lakes and other water bodies. “Arrangements should be made to provide drinking water and measures to harvest rainwater,” she added.
