Techie manifesto: Techies call for better IT environment
Thiruvananthapuram: With the elections are round the corner, techies at Technopark have highlighted the pressing demands and woes of the state IT sector, including steps to woo IT giants to the state as well as to ensure better service conditions for IT sector employees.
Prathidhwani, a socio-cultural organisation of Technopark employees, has already mailed a set of suggestions gathered through discussions with techies to all political parties. It was suggested that major IT firms like Google, Microsoft, IBM and Accenture may be invited to the state and a committee of eminent personalities in IT may be formed for the purpose.
They have also highlighted the need for giving more focus to IT product development and also suggested that target should be set to IT department officials on increasing the IT exports from the state. Support to start-ups was another suggestion of techies.
“We plan to take up these suggestion before those heading the IT in the new government,” said Prathidhwani secretary Rajeev Krishnan. For the social protection of IT sector employees, Prathidhwani suggested that National Pension Scheme should be made mandatory in the IT sector, a fund to support IT sector employees losing jobs should be created and provisions for more maternity and medical leaves on par with other private sectors should be ensured.
The other suggestions received from techies were to improve the quality of IT education, set-up evening learning centres of universities in IT campuses and provide infrastructure like hostels.
