Sankaraiah appeals to voters to ignore opinion polls

Released by media as it did not reflect the gross reality.

Chennai: Freedom fighter and veteran CPI (M) leader N. Sankaraiah on Tuesday urged voters to ignore the opinion polls released by media as it did not reflect the gross reality.

“What is this opinion polls? There is something called exit polls that would be released by the media based on the opinion of the people who voted in the election. Through the pre poll survey, the media are trying impose their opinion when the people are yet to take a clear decision on voting. You have to ignore all the opinion polls,” the 94-year-old leader said addressing an election rally in Ramavaram in support his party’s CPI (M) Maduravoyal candidate G. Bheemrao.

Pointing to the pledge taken by over one crore voters that they would vote as per the conscience without being influenced by any other consideration, he said that if the voters stood by their oath, they would take a clear political decision. “I welcome the initiative taken by the election commission on behalf of CPI (M) and the six party alliance,” he said.

Accusing both AIADMK and DMK of protecting only the interest of big business and landlords in the state and the country, he said that the six party alliance stands for the welfare of the poor and oppressed section of the people. Taking on opponent parties criticising DMDK chief Vijayakanth, he noted that DMK, Congress and BJP wanted the actor’s party to join their alliance and took several measure to rope in his party.

“After the failed attempts, now all these parties are terming Vijayakanth as comedian and claming that he does not speak well. They are targeting Vijayakanth for taking a brave decision to join the People’s Welfare Alliances. I appeal to the voters to reject all these parties for taking an opportunistic stand,” he said.
