Kayamkulam upbeat about Rahul Gandhi visit

DCC president A.A. Shukkur said there was no disappointment among workers over the postponement.

Alappuzha: Congress leaders here are preparing for party vice-president Rahul Gandhi's rally at Krishnapuram near Kayamkulam on Friday. DCC president A.A. Shukkur said there was no disappointment among workers over the postponement. “We expect Rahulji’s rally will be the game-changer in the district,” he said.

They had set up 26,000- sqft stage on Govt JTSHS ground for the scheduled rally on Wednesday. District police chief P. Ashok Kumar said he had got no confirmation so far. Congress leaders are upbeat about the impact the young leader could have on new voters.

Meanwhile, the battle in Kayamkulam has now become a matter of prestige for both traditional forces though the NDA is trying hard to make a mark here.
Stakes are high for Shaji M Panicker, the NDA candidate fielded by BDJS, a retired motor vehicle department official, as well. The BJP polled only 3,083 votes in 2011, but it more than doubled its strength in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
