YSRC, Jana Sena lock horns via sticker war; Public miffed

TIRUPATI: The ruling YSR Congress and opposition Jana Sena parties are engaged in a sticker war, resulting in regular altercations and counter-strikes between the activists of rival parties.

While the YSRC affixes 'Jagananne Ma Nammakam' stickers to private houses and buildings, the JS counters it by affixing the 'Maku Nammakam Pawan' stickers.

As the 2024 Assembly and LS elections are only a year away, political parties in the state have begun making catchy captions and slogans for the big electoral fight ahead. The ruling YSRC launched a political campaign titled “Jagananne Maa Bhavishyathu” across the state.

The ruling party activists including the newly appointed Gruha Sarathis and ward sachivalayam conveners have been conducting a door-to-door survey to obtain feedback from the people about the performance of the government. When a person expresses his satisfaction with the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government, he or she is given a receipt. Then, Gruha Sarathis will paste door and mobile stickers of the CM, which state 'Jagananne Ma Nammakam'.

Countering this move, the JS launched a viral campaign and started affixing similar stickers, but with a different message.

The 'Jana Sainiks' went to the colonies visited by the YSRC leaders and started affixing stickers with the words 'Maku Nammakam Ledhu Jagan - Maku Nammakam Pawan'. JS workers went to the streets visited by YSRC leaders in Tirupati and began a campaign against the ruling party, saying it had lost the people's support.

Residents in Tirupati are irritated over the pasting of stickers – by the two parties -- on their walls without their consent. Owners of new constructions and freshly painted residences are more outraged by such indulgences.

"Political parties should be aware that such cheap practices will serve no purpose because the people, who have already witnessed a lack of development for four years, will not be fooled by such stickers," Congress leader Naveen Reddy said.
