TN will get more development if BJP returns to power: CM
Chennai: Tamil Nadu will witness more infrastructure besides receive sufficient funds for executing welfare schemes in a big way if the BJP, which is part of the AIADMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, comes to power, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has said.
"Our projects will get the Centre's nod quickly and we will get sufficient funds for schemes and programmes, thus benefiting the people, if our alliance come to power at the Centre," Mr Palaniswami said on Wednesday. Garnering votes for his party's candidate for Chidambaram Lok Sabha constituency Chandrasekar, the CM said "our alliance will not only serve the people but would also reflect the feelings of the people." He flayed the DMK-led alliance terming it as opportunistic.
While campaigning for AIADMK candidate N.R. Sivapathi (Perambalur LS constituency) at Perambalur, Musiri, Mannachanallur and Thuraiyur, he said the AIADMK government would construct check dams at every possible location across Cauvery river to prevent the water from going waste into the sea during surplus season.
Mr Palaniswami recalled that his government had appointed a high-level committee consisting of four retired Chief Engineers of the Public Works Department to study the possibility of constructing check dams wherever possible across rivers including the Cauvery. A sum of `1,000 crore would be spent for constructing check dams across the Cauvery and other rivers in the State in three years.
Maintaining that the Amma government could continue to accord priority to agriculture, the CM said the kudimaramathu scheme helped to revive over 3,000 lakes and ponds in Tamil Nadu. It has been planned to desilt at least 2,000 lakes across the state every year.
