THOOTHUKUDI: DMK president MK Stalin made an emotional appeal to the electorate here to vote for his sister Kanimozhi, stating that they would not have a better candidate than her.
Enlisting some of the major achievements of Kanimozhi as Rajya Sabha member since 2007, the DMK president proudly referred to Kanimozhi as 'Tiger of Parliament', and asked people to elect her as their representative to the Lok Sabha, and utilise her political and parliamentary skills for the development of the constituency and find a lasting solution for the problems of people.
Adding that introducing Kanimozhi would be like introducing late M Karunanidhi to people, Stalin said, “It is as if Karunanidhi himself is contesting in Thoothukudi.” He explained the incidents leading to the police firing in Thoothukudi that claimed 13 lives and said that people should remember this and vote out the Modi led NDA government at the Centre. “Once the Narendra Modi government is defeated the Edappadi K Palanisamy led government in Tamil Nadu will fall,” he noted.
Criticizing Kanimozhi's close rival Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan of the BJP in Thoothukudi, Stalin said, “Let me sympathise with Dr Tamilisai in advance as her party seems to have fielded her in Thoothukudi to trounce her.” He suggested that she was fielded in Thoothukudi due to internal dissensions in the BJP. Stalin also said that many more such problems like those of the fishermen's issue, match units struggling to thrive due to GST, problems of salt pan manufacturers and workers would definitely ensure the defeat of the BJP in Thoothukudi.
