Ghar wapsi to Congress? SM Krishna says no way!
BENGALURU: With fake news increasing manifold in the run-up to Assembly elections on May 12, former external affairs minister S M Krishna endured awkward moments on Tuesday when a report surfaced on the internet about his imminent ‘Ghar Wapsi’ to Congress.
The report said the octogenarian was miffed with BJP leaders as they did not heed his request for a ticket to his younger daughter Shambhavi to stand from either RR Nagar in Bengaluru or his home turf Maddur and therefore planned to quit the party and return to Congress. The report also indicated that KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar and KPCC campaign committee chairman, D.K. Shivakumar reportedly met Mr Krishna and requested him to return to the Congress, and that the former chief minister agreed to do so, and Mrs Shambhavi would contest as an independent in an act of rebellion. It also mentioned that Mr Krishna had reportedly advised his supporters to remain neutral and not back the BJP in next month’s polls.
In the afternoon, Mr Krishna scotched speculation about his return to Congress.
“I have not held talks with any Congress leaders. Under no circumstances will I join the Congress party. Some mischief-makers are spreading these rumours. I am not unhappy with the way the BJP has treated me," he said in a statement.
