Aruna: BRS trying to divert public attention from Kavitha inquiry

Hyderabad: BJP vice-president D.K. Aruna on Saturday claimed that the BRS was trying to divert public attention from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioning its MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha.

She accused the BRS of disrespecting and failing to protect women, claiming that they recognised only Kavitha as a woman and ignoring other women.

“No BRS leader or activist responded when their party MLCs and MLAs made objectionable comments and sexually harassed women. BRS MLC Padi Koushik Reddy made objectionable comments against Governor Tamilisai Soundarajan and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao elevated him to the post of Legislative Council Whip. A woman sarpanch complained about sexual harassment by BRS MLA T. Rajaiah, but neither BRS leaders nor state women commission responded to it,” she said.

Meanwhile, BJP state secretary B. Jayasree asked why BRS leaders protesting the ED inquiry. “If Kavitha is innocent, she will come out free,” she told reporters here. “If Kavitha is innocent, why are BRS ministers and leaders accompanying her to Delhi?”

BJP Mahila Morcha national executive member Akula Vijaya, in a jibe at Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao, said he should have had the men from his family deal with the liquor case.
