Congress legislator Sabita Indra Reddy to dump Rahul Gandhi, join TRS

The move is significant for the March 12 Council elections and April 11 Lok Sabha polls.

Hyderabad: The ground is being prepared for Congress legislator and former minister Sabita Indra Reddy and her son Karthik Reddy to join the Telangana Rasthtra Samiti. Ms Reddy is in line for a Cabinet post and her son too would be suitably rewarded.

This agreement emerged at a breakfast meeting between TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and Ms Reddy on Sunday at the residence of MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi.

The move is significant for the March 12 Council elections and April 11 Lok Sabha polls.

According sources in the TRS and the MIM, Mr Karthik Reddy met Mr Owaisi three days ago and expressed his desire to join the TRS along with his mother and also to contest for the Chevella Lok Sabha seat in the ensuing Parliamentary elections.

Mr Owaisi conveyed the proposal to TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who asked Mr Rama Rao and Ms K. Kavitha, MP, to have a talk with Ms Reddy in the presence of Mr Owaisi.

Sources revealed that accordingly they met at the residence of Mr Owaisi on Sunday for an hour-long discussion.

The TRS has made it a prestige issue to win back the Chevella Lok Sabha seat after sitting MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy defected to the Congress prior to the Assembly polls. After that, the TRS conducted more than 10 surveys in the segment to gauge the probability of winning the seat if they nominated former minister P. Mahender Reddy, or Telangana Legislative Council chairman K. Swamy Goud or industrialist G. Ranjith Reddy. Mr Karthik Reddy’s name too popped up.

Sources in the TRS said all surveys showed that the sitting MP had the edge. So having the Indra Reddy family with the TRS would be the party’s best bet to win the Chevella Lok Sabha seat, even though Mr Karthik Reddy had contested on a Congress ticket in 2014 against Mr Vishwesh-war Reddy and lost.
