Pon Radhakrishnan to take up poll campaign in Karnataka

The election results in Karnataka will also inspire the party members in the other Southern States to strive hard for the BJP's victory, he added.

Chennai: Union minister of State for Finance and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan will take up election campaign for the BJP in Karnataka on March 11.

He would extensively tour Tumkur and Chitradurga districts in the poll bound State. According to sources in the BJP here, the Assembly elections in the neighbouring State is keenly watched by the party high command, which has set a lofty goal to storm to power in Karnataka.

“We have been registering impressive victories in all the States including Tripura and Meghalaya where the Assembly elections were conducted and now it’s time for us to prove that lotus (party symbol) will bloom in the southern States as well,” a senior leader said.

The election results in Karnataka will also inspire the party members in the other Southern States to strive hard for the BJP’s victory, he added.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has condemned the “attack” on BJP women leader Nellaiammal allegedly by farmer leader Ayyakannu on Tiruchendur temple premises, on International Women’s Day and said Nellaiammal had objected to false campaign against Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the farmers inside the temple.

“She was abused and threatened. She acted in self defence as she was all alone fighting against six men for justice,” Dr. Tamilisai said and commended Nellaimmal for her “bravery.” Also, Dr Tamilisai called for measures to improve security of women, in the wake of two recent incidents — death of a pregnant woman after her vehicle was attacked by a police inspector and the murder of a college girl by a jilted lover.

“I was shattered to hear the murder of Aswini (college student). Where are we heading to? It is high time safety and security of women is ensured,” she said.
