Karnataka BJP to poll panel: No new schemes please

The party reiterated its opposition to the announcement of any populist scheme by the CM.

With the state government set to present its budget on March 15, the BJP has requested the Chief Electoral Officer to give necessary directions to the government not to announce popular schemes as it may influence the voters of Nanjangud and Gundlupet in the by-elections.

BJP leaders headed by former minister S. Suresh Kumar and former MLC, Ashwathnarayana met the Chief Electoral Officer on Friday and submitted a memorandum requesting the Commission to give directions to the govt not to announce popular schemes in the budget.

"Elections are fought on a level playing field in a fair and transparent manner but the announcement of populist schemes in the budget will affect the level playing field and put opposition parties at a disadvantage", the BJP stated.

The party made it clear that it will not oppose the presentation of the budget as this is a constitutional obligation but reiterated its opposition to the announcement of any populist scheme by the CM.
