DMK to select byelection candidate in three days
Chennai: DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Friday said his party would complete the process of selecting candidate for the RK Nagar bypoll in three days.
Speaking to reporters at the airport here, Stalin asserted that DMK's prospects for winning R K Nagar is very bright. The principal opposition DMK started the process of selecting party candidates for the RK Nagar bypoll by issuing applications for party functionaries who could submit the filled applications till March 12. The interview for selection of party candidates will be held on March 13.
Shimla Muthuchozhan, who contested in the 2016 Assembly elections against a formidable opponent and former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has expressed her will to contest again.
After getting the applications, she spoke to the media that she would win the seat this time, if given another chance.
“I have been in touch with the people after the elections too. I don't use a car and I move around the constituency in a two-wheeler to speak to people. I have assisted the people when RK Nagar after cyclone Vardah hit Chennai. I am well known to the people”, she said recalling that she had polled over 57,000 votes against Jayalalithaa.
TNCC president S. Thirunavukkarasar announced that Congress would support the DMK in RK Nagar and said the decision was taken after a request was made by Stalin to the Congress.
He declared that the DMK would certainly win the seat. Manithaneya Makkal Katchi too expressed its support to the DMK.
