KCR trying to cheat tribals again: Laxman

HYDERABAD: BJP Rajya Sabha member K. Laxman accused Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao of trying to cheat tribals once again on the podu lands issue ahead of the Assembly elections.

He recalled that Rao at an earlier review meeting on podu lands, during the Nagarjunasagar by-election, had assured to handover Podu lands but in vain, he said.

In the 2022-23 budget, the government had allocated Rs 3,415 crore for the development of Scheduled Tribes but it spent a meagre Rs 100 crore for the purpose, the BJP leader said in release here on Saturday.

The ST driver empowerment scheme and economical support scheme were not being implemented, he said. Thandas have been elevated to gram panchayats but they have not been provided even the basic amenities, Laxman said adding that 100 units of free power in tribal hamlets are yet to be implemented.

The Girijana Bandhu scheme that was announced amid fanfare last year is yet to get funds, he said.
