Modi promises Canadian PM to do his best on Covid vaccine supply

The PM also assured his Canadian counterpart of collaboration on climate change and global economic recovery

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a call from his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau late on Wednesday evening for facilitation of vaccine supplies to Canada following which PM Modi agreed that India would “do its best”, even as he referred to the Canadian PM as his “friend”. This comes just two months after India had issued a demarche to Canada for “unacceptable interference” in India’s internal affairs in response to comments made then by senior Canadian politicians including Mr. Trudeau on the farmers’ protests in India.

“Was happy to receive a call from my friend @JustinTrudeau. Assured him that India would do its best to facilitate supplies of COVID vaccines sought by Canada. We also agreed to continue collaborating on other important issues like Climate Change and the global economic recovery,” PM Modi tweeted late on Wednesday night. Just last month, New Delhi had announced that commercial supplies of India-manufactured Covid vaccine are likely to take place to Canada.
