Jagan says officials must work as a cricket team

He had lunch with the bureaucrats after the meeting and spent a good amount of time talking to them informally

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday stressed the need for team work for effective governance and secure the popular mandate once again in 2024.

He was participating in the meeting of departmental heads and secretaries convened by Chief Secretary Aditya Nath Das to review the implementation of the welfare initiatives ‘Navaratnalu’.

Jagan Mohan Reddy sprang a surprise by not only exhibiting his cricket knowlededge, perhaps for the first time in official meetings, but also exuding bonhomie. He had lunch with the bureaucrats after the meeting and spent a good amount of time talking to them informally, according to sources.

“It is not enough if captain alone plays and we can’t win matches without team effort,” he said.

Referring to successful launching of all the poll promises within a year of coming to power, the Chief Minister said, “We played the opening overs extremely well and now into the middle overs when batsmen tend to relax a bit. It will be difficult to make up in the slog overs if we don’t continue the spirit of opening overs all through the match.”

The Chief Minister asked the officials to continue to extend cooperation to his government and help it successfully secure the mandate in 2024. “The meeting went on more at an informal level though the Chief Minister drove home the point,” a senior official told Deccan Chronicle. The Chief Minister also appreciated Aditya Nath Das for taking the initiative to call the secretaries meeting which he said should be a regular feature.

Jagan Mohan Reddy asked officials to freely express their views and come up with suggestions for further improving the delivery mechanisms. He expressed satisfaction for success of the administration being taken to the village level unlike the previous government which stopped at the mandal level.

Officials were having doubts over implementing the poll promises with Rs 60,000 crore debt left behind by the TD government. “Not only did we launch Navaratnalu but have also successfully implementing them,” he said adding that Rs 90,000 crore was deposited to people’s accounts under various Direct Benefit Transfer schemes.
