Andhra Pradesh panchayat polls: 539 sarpanches elected unanimously in Phase - I

Elections will be conducted for 20,796 ward members and 44,879 contestants are in the fray in Phase-II

VIJAYAWADA: In the second phase gram panchayat polls, 539 positions of sarpanches and 12,605 ward members were elected unanimously.
The State Election Commission in a statement issued here on Wednesday said that 167 mandals were notified for conduct of polls under phase-2, scheduled for February 13.

Among them, 3,328 offices of sarpanch were notified for election and of them, 539 were elected unanimously. This has resulted in the need to conduct elections to 2,786 offices and 7,510 contestants are in fray.

With regard to ward members, 33,570 positions were notified in 168 mandals for conduct of polls. Of them, 12,605 were elected unanimously. This means elections will be conducted for 20,796 ward members and 44,879 contestants are in the fray.
