Puducherry: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Puducherry on February 24 to participate in the golden jubilee celebration of the Auroville International township near here, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said here.
“I have written to the Prime Minister to inaugurate the Puducherry sea port on that day. I hope he will concede our request as this port project has been a long-felt requirement of Puducherry”, Narayanasamy told reporters on Sunday.
Later speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the CM said the Puducherry sea port had inked a MoU with the Chennai port about a year ago, under which it was agreed that the former will handle 10 lakh metric tonnes of exports and imports annually.
“This agreement has come into effect this month. Since it is a long-term project conceived by the Puducherry government, we thought it would be most appropriate if the PM inaugurates it formally during his visit”,Narayanasamy said.
He said he would meet the PM along with cabinet colleagues during his visit and present a detailed memorandum seeking “generous funds” for the development of the Union Territory.
“I have been pleading for additional funds whenever I met the PM. We hope he will be generous towards us”, Narayanaswami said.
