Thrissur: Congress legisaltor V.T. Balram continues to face the wrath of CPM men over his Facebook post against Communist icon A.K. Gopalan. The party workers threw eggs at the MLA and even tried to manhandle him when he arrived to inaugurate a private medical laboratory at Kootanad near Chalissery in Thirthala constituency on Wednesday.
The UDF called a hartal in the constituency on Thursday to protest against the incident. The CPM men staged a protest march to the venue when he reached there leading to a violent clash between CPM and Congress activists. The police resorted to a lathicharge to disperse the groups and many workers were injured.
The CPM men also threw stones at Mr Balram’s Innova car and damaged its window glass. Chalissery police said that they were yet to register a case over the incident and that an FIR would be registered soon.
A few days ago, the DYFI men had attacked Mr Balram’s office in his constituency during a protest march over his Facebook comments.
