BBMP panel polls today
BENGALURU: After being postponed twice, elections for BBMP standing committees will be held on Friday. Elections were postponed once due to the celebration of Diamond Jubilee celebration of Vidhana Soudha and again later as there was no clarity on the sharing of the standing committee posts among the Congress-JD (S) coalition.
On Thursday, KPCC working president Dinesh Gundurao held a meeting and it has been decided that Congress party will have five standing committees, JD (S) will be given three and independent candidates will be given a chance to head the remaining three committees.
JD (S), which had sought the post of Mayor but later given up the claim, has bargained and got the crucial post of chairman of BBMP Taxation and Finance.
As many as 132 members will be elected for 12 standing committees which will look after sectors such as social justice, major public works, town planning, public health, accounts, appeals, ward level works, horticulture, markets, establishment and administrative reforms and education in BBMP limits.
Nominations will be accepted from 9am onwards and elections will commence at 10 am at BBMP council hall.
