Vellore: India is poised to emerge as a major economic-cum-military power by the year 2030, said the Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Monday. Anti-India forces, unable to stomach its growing economic might, want to damage the country and weaken its strategic position, he added.

Speaking at a function at Arakkonam in Vellore district to mark the successful completion of training by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, the home minister said that though the United States and India were two countries which faced heightened threats from terrorism today, with terror strikes being done in a very scientific way, India’s capabilities to counter terrorism have also considerably increased.

Lauding the CISF personnel who passed out today, Rajnath Singh said the stature of the CISF was also growing and its personnel were like a "subsidiary army" today at the Central level.

As many as 1043 CISF trainees at various levels passed out today in the categories of commandos, assistant inspectors and deputy inspectors. Singh presented medals and certificates to them.

Earlier,  Rajnath Singh went in an open jeep, inspecting a guard of honour presented to the Home Minister by the CISF personnel and then took the customary salute at the saluting base.

Referring to increase in cyber crimes in the country, he said there was a need to set up a centralized cyber crime detection centre.

The CISF personnel were presently paid very well and any death of any CISF person on duty entitled each of their families to a solatium of `1 crore, besides government taking care of the education expenses of the deceased person's children, he said.

Singh also expressed satisfaction that the overall strength of the CISF has gone up from one lakh personnel to 1.80 lakh personnel.

The CISF personnel were doing commendable service at airports, oil refineries, public sector undertakings, metro rail projects and other strategic infrastructure, he pointed out. In principle, the Centre has decided to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in the CISF also, Rajnath Singh disclosed. The CISF personnel were also being deputed to do duty with the BSF, he added.
