BJP CD row: Case to be transferred to ACB?
BENGALURU: A day after the Forensic Sciences Laboratory report indicting former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Union minister Ananth Kumar in a case related to paying BJP central leadership was made public, the case is likely to be transferred from the Cyber Crime police to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
A senior police officer said that as the conversation between Mr Yeddyurappa and Mr Kumar in a video CD is about paying the party's central leadership, the case is fit to be booked under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. As the ACB is the only agency in the state to investigate cases related to corruption, the case will be handed over to the Bureau soon, the officer said.
“The complaint was first registered with the Cyber Crime police station as the only evidence so far in the case was a video CD. As the CD itself was in question, it was sent for analysis to the CFL. The CD is genuine, voice samples matched and the report is submitted. Now, the role of cyber crime police is over. We are discussing the legal aspects to transfer the case to the ACB,” a senior police officer said.
It is learnt that ADGP M.N. Reddi, the chief of ACB, and T. Suneel Kumar, city police commissioner, held a meeting to discuss about the case. It is said that the case will be transferred to the ACB in 2-3 days. “As per procedure, we can register an FIR, but nothing beyond questioning a few people will happen,” an ACB official said.
Ananth, BSY: It’s fake, doctored CD
Declaring that he was ready to fight the case in court if need be, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ananth Kumar claimed on Monday that the Forensic Science Laboratory FSL) report confirming the voices on a CD as belonging to him and state BJP chief, B.S.Yeddyurappa, was doctored.
The Congress has claimed that the two men are heard discussing payments made in crores to the BJP national leadership on the controversial CD.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr Kumar said the FSL appeared in a great hurry to give its report within 15 days of the voice samples being sent to it , when it took over one- and -a -half years to examine the suicide of Dy.SP, Ganapathy and over two years to look into the case of Dy.SP, Anupama Shenoy.
“The voice samples were not tested by the cyber forensic section of the FSL, but by its physics section,” he charged, adding,
“Like our leader Yeddyurappa, I have also demanded the full text of the CD. It has been doctored and the FSL report is politically motivated. We will not give in to such blackmailing tactics of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and have faith in the judiciary. We will fight the case before the appropriate forum.” Mr Kumar also accused Mr Siddaramaiah of behaving like a dictator and “imposing an undeclared emergency” in the state.
“He is not only adamant and corrupt, but also files false cases against his opponents for raising their voice against him. The dirty tricks department of the Congress is active and working round –the- clock both in Delhi and Karnataka,” he alleged.
Mr Kumar regretted that the Anti-Corruption Bureau was filing closure reports in cases filed against the Chief Minister but was fast tracking investigation into cases filed against his political opponents.
He also claimed the Congress was targeting BJP national president, Amit Shah because the party had expanded its base in the country under his leadership. “The Congress is frustrated and desperate,” he contended.
