AIADMK will get people\'s mandate: Tamil Nadu minister

State lost most of its rights when the DMK was part of the coalition government at the Centre

Chennai: The people of Tamil Nadu have resolved to elect the AIADMK back to power, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar said on Wednesday.

Reacting to a question from the media, after attending a party event in Broadway, on the DMK general council passing a resolution to bring DMK to power and make M K Stalin the Chief Minister, Jayakumar said that was a resolution passed by the DMK but the people had resolved otherwise.

On the DMK’s allegation that the AIADMK had given up on the rights of the State, he said the State lost most of its rights when the DMK was part of the coalition government at the Centre. Even on issues like the Cauvery dispute the DMK did not take any firm stand, he said.

The AIADMK had been fighting for the rights of the State fervently with the Centre, he said, adding that the State government had been fighting for the Rs 12,000 crore GST dues that the Centre had to pay, he said.

When asked about BJP leaders talking about forming a government in Tamil Nadu, the Minister said that it could be their wish and they might have expressed their views about it.

On Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami urging the Reserve Bank of India to roll back its credit policy, Jayakumar said that the government could not tolerate the reduction of funds to the districts that had shown growth.
