Warangal: Konda couple exit creates ripples

If not all three, they could contest in at least two of the constituencies after joining the Congress.

Warangal: The Konda couple has almost exited from the TRS and is all set to join the Congress, sending political ripples across Warangal East, Parkal and Bhupalapally constituencies. from where the Konda family is planning to contest. If not all three, they could contest in at least two of the constituencies after joining the Congress.

The family had previously declared that their daughter, Sushmitha Patel, would begin her political career during these elections. The Kondas, who hail from Geesugonda mandal, will be looking to field her from the Parkal constituency where they have a strong following.

Surekha had earlier won from this constituency and even served as a minister in the Y.S. Rajshekhar Reddy Cabinet. It will not be a problem for them to campaign and give strong competition to the other contestants, including TRS candidate Challa Dharma Reddy. The party is divided and Dharma Reddy might see a good number of party workers go behind Konda.

In case they decide to contest from Bhupalapally, senior Congress leader Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy will be very unhappy. Konda Surekha was elected to AP Assembly twice from Shyampet (currently Bhupalapally) Assembly constituency of Warangal district, in 1999 and 2004.

She still enjoys a good following in the area. The Warangal East constituency, which is seeing a hotly contested race in terms of the number of candidates, also seems to favour the Kondas.

They have managed to create a divide in the TRS and will take a good number of party workers along with them. Candidates from the Congress party will be unhappy if the party decides to hand them the party ticket. As a whole, the Konda impact can be seen in both the TRS and the Congress parties.
