N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy rift out in the open

The TPCC chief's supporters raised counter slogans against the Komatireddy brothers.

Hyderabad: Bringing the discontent between TS Congress leaders out into the open, supporters of TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and the Komatireddy brothers Rajagopal Reddy and Venkat Reddy created a ruckus at a training camp for party activists on Saturday.

Supporters of the Nalgonda based brothers raised an objection at their not being invited to the dais and raised slogans against Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy at the training camp at Shamshabad.

The TPCC chief’s supporters raised counter slogans against the Komatireddy brothers. Angered at this, the brothers boycotted the meeting.

Senior Congress leaders including S. Jaipal Reddy, who were on the dais, tried to pacify the warring factions but in vain.

While Komatireddy bro-thers’ supporters shouted slogans “Uttam Hatao, Congress Bachao”, the TPCC chief’s supporters retorted with “Remove Komatireddy brothers from the Congress”.

The tussle between Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy and party MLC Rajagopal Reddy and legislator Venkat Reddy has intensified over the past year. The Nalgonda party strong men have been demanding the ouster of Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy as TPCC chief, openly alleging that he was not capable of bringing the Congress back to power in 2019. They have urged the high command to scout for a TPCC chief, who can take on TRS and ensure victory for the Congress.

Despite the warnings issued by party leaders Digvijay Singh, and TS incharge R.C. Kunthia against open criticism of the state party leadership, the Komatireddy brothers have persisted.

Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said he would take up the issue with the high command.
