Large turnout at Dalit Tribal Dandora event held by Congress at Indravelli

For the first time, NH-44 wore a festive look as Congress leaders set up flexes and flags all the way from Hyderabad to Adilabad

HYDERABAD: The large turnout for the Dalit Tribal Dandora programme at Indravelli has boosted the morale of the Congress party’s rank and file in Telangana state on Monday. The first day of the event saw energetic participation of party leaders and activists from various regions.

This was the first public meeting organised by the Congress in erstwhile Adilabad district after A Revanth Reddy took charge as TPCC president recently.

Congress leaders of undivided Adilabad, Karimnagar and Nizamabad got actively involved in organising the meeting. Significance is attached to the holding of the meet at the Martyrs column in Indravelli, a historical place for tribals where they had revolted against repression and dictatorship.

For the first time, National Highway 44 wore a festive look as Congress leaders set up flexes and flags all the way from Hyderabad to Adilabad, highlighting the importance of the Indravelli meeting.

Congressmen and others took part in the meeting with full adherence to the Covid19 protocols like wearing of facemask and use of hand sanitizers.

Former MLC Premsagar Rao played a vital role in making the arrangements for the programme. Congress MLA Seethakka motivated tribals to participate in the Dandora programme. AICC programmes implementation committee chairman Maheshwar Reddy, who hails from Adilabad district, also worked hard for the success of the event.

TPCC office-bearers like CLP leader MB Vikramarka, MLAs Sridhar Babu, Seethakka, MLC Jeevan Reddy, senior leaders Ponnala Lakshmaiah, and Mohammad Ali Shabbir were present.

Surprisingly, Congress MPs N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy kept away from the event.

A Congress leader told Deccan Chronicle that the meeting was successful despite the Covid-related concerns. “All doubts (over the recent change of PCC leadership) are cleared as party leaders and activists attended the meeting in good numbers,” he said.

Indravelli is far from other districts, but party leaders from near and far enthusiastically participated in the meeting, he noted.
