Chennai: The 97-year-old Communist leader N. Sankaraiah who is confined to his house due to old age, turned emotional watching the funeral procession of DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on television.
The veteran CPI (M) leader, who had turned 97 on July 15, has been avoiding public functions due to age and resides in his Chromepet home. On hearing about the news of DMK stalwart’s demise, Mr. Sankaraiah was beset with sadness over losing his long-term friend. He became teary-eyed when he saw the visuals of leaders paying homage.
All through the day he sat in front of the TV watching the funeral procession. Just as the military carriage with the mortal remains of Karunanidhi started inching its way to Marina beach for the final resting place, Mr. Sankaraiah waved his hands and bid adieu.
