Telangana BJP moves on from 'chai pe charcha' to 'tiffin baithaks'

HYDERABAD: Forget the ‘chai pe charcha’. It is now time for ‘tiffin baithaks’ for the BJP.

The ‘chai pe charcha’ concept, where a group of party workers, or leaders, would gather and discuss party affairs and plans over a cup of tea or a few party leaders would stop at a tea stall and interact with those present there, was popularised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose rise from a ‘chai seller’ to Prime Minister is now part of BJP folklore.

Come July 16, the Telangana will hold ‘tiffin baithaks’ in all the 119 Assembly constituencies where it hopes its party leaders at the ground level will get together, share snacks, and ideas on making the BJP stronger and gearing up for the coming Assembly elections in the state.

The only condition is that all those taking part in the baithaks will bring their own tiffins, gather at a chowrastha or somewhere close to it, and chat among themselves.

The mini food fests promise to be something with the party mandating that each of the ‘tiffin baithaks’ should have at least 200 of its leaders attending it.

The choice of ‘tiffins’ the party leaders are to get, however, has been left to those individual leaders.
