Kadapa: As part of Chief Minister Y.S, Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to Kadapa district, he laid the foundation stones for various development works in Badvel and Kadapa for projects costing a total of about Rs 900 crore.
On Friday morning, on the second day of the CM’s visit, he reached Badvel directly from Idupulapaya. Shortly before noon, he unveiled plaques related to various development works to a “predetermined extent”.
Speaking at a public meeting, Reddy said Badvel, one of the backward constituencies in the state, was set for all-round development. He laid the foundation stones for development works worth about Rs 500 crore in this region.
AT a public meeting there, he said the government was aiming to strengthen the Brahmamsagar reservoir in Badvel constituency and store water to its actual capacity.
He said the project had a capacity of storing 17tmc of water during the rule of the late chief minister Rajasekhara Reddy was simply abandoned by those who came in power later.
The Brahmamsagar reservoir has been completely filled with water in the last two years, since the YSR Congress government came to power, Jagan said.
The Chief Minister said he was determined to strengthen the project by completing various tasks after he came to power. “Due to lack of lining from 0 to 18km at the Telugu Ganga main canal from Velugodu Reservoir, which supplies water to the Brahmamsagar reservoir, it was found that the water was not reaching the reservoir as expected.”
He said the canal lining was complete by 80 per cent at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore. The rest would be completed by October this year.
The CM also said a lift irrigation project worth Rs 600 crore has been designed to divert floodwater wasted in the Kundu river during the monsoon season into the Brahmamsagar reservoir, which is also in progress. The work would be completed in another two years.
“When the water was fully stored in the canal, leaks were found in the reservoir bund in some places. Work is being done to repair them at a cost of Rs 45 crore. Once the work is completed, it will be possible for us to fill the Brahmamsagar Reservoir to a full capacity of 17 tmc ft.”
He said CC roads, parks etc are being developed in Badvel town at a cost of Rs 130 crore.
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for development works related to other irrigated water resources. He announced that, at the request of local leaders and the public, a revenue divisional office would be set up at Badvel. Now, the revenue divisional headquarter is in Rajampet, which is 130 km away from Kashinayana and Kalasapadu mandals in the constituency, he said.
Earlier, Kadapa MP Avinash Reddy, former MLC Govindareddy, Deputy CM Amjad Basha and district minister-in-charge Suresh addressed the event.
District Collector Harikiran presided over the meeting. The meeting first observed a two-minute silence in mourning for the recently deceased MLA Venkatasubbaiah.
After the public meeting in Badvel, the Chief Minister reached Kadapa at 2.30 pm. He laid the foundation stone for construction of a new building for the CP Brown Memorial Library in Kadapa.
The CM unveiled a statue of CP Brown at the library premises. Later, he reached Mahavir circle and inaugurated two roads built at a cost of Rs 80 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for various development works to be undertaken at a cost of about Rs 400 crore.
At a public meeting at Mahavir Circle, He expressed the hope that Kadapa would also join the list of beautiful cities in the state, with the development work being carried out under his government. He promised to set up a robust sewerage system for Kadapa city.
He recalled that many parts of the city had been submerged in rainwater due to the recent rains. A solid drainage system would be set up to overcome this problem.
Jagan laid the foundation stones for the development of several roads in Kadapa city. Funds have been sanctioned to the extent required for the beautification of Bungavanka flowing across the city, he said.
The CM later unveiled the statues of Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and Y.S. Raja Reddy at the Y.S. Raja Reddy Cricket Stadium. Also, the foundation stone was laid for erection of a flood-light system at the cricket stadium at a cost of Rs 4 crore.
Deputy chief minister Amjad Basha, MP Avinash Reddy, district in-charge minister Suresh, collector Harikiran, Mayor Suresh, all the legislators in the district, joint collectors and several other officials were present at the event.
