Retirement' talk hots up in Congress
Hyderabad: The demand to confine veteran leaders aged above 65 years only to party activities and restrict them from contesting elections has heated up in Congress.
Senior Congress leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Monday said, "If veteran leaders lose in elections, they just stay at home. If young leaders are given a chance, they will work for the party even if they lose the elections. The party high command should give a serious thought to this issue and take a decision as to who should be accorded priority while giving the tickets for the 2019 elections." He also urged the party high command to allot at least 10 assembly tickets to youth leaders in 2019 polls.
Mr Reddy said that Ms Sonia Gandhi granted statehood for Telangana to stop suicides of youth and not under pressure of TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
“The TRS government failed to meet the aspirations of youth. KCR failed to give the promised one lakh government jobs to youth in four years. Youth are very upset at TRS government and are looking towards Congress for help. The Congress should stand by the youth at this stage. The party should first win their confidence by allotting sufficient number of tickets to youth. After coming to power, we should ensure jobs for youth and self employment schemes,” Mr Reddy added.
