Not in mood to go for early elections: Siddaramaiah

The Chief Minister also said that the party has full faith in all 123 Congress MLAs.

Bengaluru: Clearly sending out a signal to Congress party leaders and MLAs that he was in no mood to go for early polls which has become a point of speculation, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday directed them to go to their constituencies and launch a positive mass contact programme to win their seats.

He wanted the MLAs to launch their campaign soon after the conclusion of the monsoon session next week. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior leader said, “We have already commenced survey work to identify the party's weak points in some constituencies in order to fix them early. Already, we have completed the survey in more than 50 constituencies, where we have come to know that the party is ahead of its rivals. Therefore, it has become all the more important for our leaders to launch a massive people’s contact programme in their constituencies to set things right before the polls in 2018.”

The Chief Minister also said that the party has full faith in all 123 Congress MLAs and they will be spearheading the people's contact programme in their constituencies. In seats which the party has not won, local leaders will take up this task. "Surveys will give us an overview of problems that a party's candidate faces in a particular constituency, but ultimately the solution for these problems will have to come from our local leaders and MLAs.

Therefore, I am asking you to launch your campaign now itself. If there are any complicated issues which individuals cannot solve, immediately bring them to the party's notice," Siddaramaiah told the meeting.

The CM reiterated that AICC general secretary, K. C. Venugopal's instructions on completing the formation of block level committees should be taken seriously in order to reach out to more voters before the rival party does this.
